Manchester United have made a second bid for Kieran Trippier in the region of £21.5million, according to reports. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants the Atletico Madrid star as he plots a summer spending spree. And a transfer could now be on, with Diego Simeone reportedly ‘close’ to accepting the offer.
Manchester United saw Luke Shaw sparkle last term, with the England international improving considerably following the arrival of Alex Telles from Porto. And the Red Devils now want to repeat the trick at right-back, too.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka walks into the side by default at present, with Solskjaer primed to sell Diogo Dalot to AC Milan. United want intense competition for places, aware they need a world-class squad if they’re to beat Manchester City to the Premier League title next time out.
And La Gazzetta Dello Sport claim that United have now made a second bid for Trippier, with their first offer of £10m rejected.
It’s claimed the Red Devils have upped the sum to £21.5m, showing they’re genuinely serious when it comes to landing the Atletico Madrid star.
And the report says that Simeone is close to accepting the bid, with Atletico looking to raise funds for a spending spree of their own.
Trippier has Premier League experience, having previously spent time at Burnley and Tottenham earlier in his career so far.
He left Turf Moor for Spurs back in the summer transfer window of 2015 and then proceeded to spend four years in north London before choosing to move to Spain in 2019.
Simeone has helped the 30-year-old improve over in La Liga, with the pair helping Atletico win the league title last term ahead of fierce rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona.
And Trippier is also a proven performer at the international level, having been a big part of the England side that made the World Cup semi-finals in Russia three years ago.
