Manchester United have made Harry Kane one of their top transfer targets for the summer, with the Tottenham star commanding a £50m fee – but they could offer a player-plus-cash deal

The Englishman, who won the Golden Boot last season, has expressed his desire to leave this summer after an eighth season without silverware.

While Chelsea and Manchester City have been the front-runners for the 27-year-old, the Red Devils have also been making their case to the forward.

But The Athletic have reported that United could have an edge that would also solve a problem for Solskjaer. Kane is currently commanding a £150m price tag, though Spurs owner Daniel Levy could lower this by £30m.

The United boss, though, could be looking to get rid of Anthony Martial as the Norwegian is “tired of his attitude” at Old Trafford.

And the report states that the club uses the 25-year-old, who has scored 78 goals in 258 games at United, to help in negotiations.

Another player who could also fill this role is Jesse Lingard, having spent the second half of the season on loan at Spurs’ London neighbors West Ham.

Scoring nine goals and making five assists for the Hammers to help them reach the Europa League, his value has increased significantly after being given the cold shoulder by Solskjaer for the last two seasons.
