Manchester United will reportedly double Harry Kane’s wages to £400,000-a-week in a bid to steal the Tottenham striker from the grasp of bitter rivals Manchester City this summer.
The two Manchester giants are believed to be at the front of the queue for the England skipper, who is expected to quit Spurs after a long 17-year association with the club at the end of the season. Chelsea, Barcelona, and Real Madrid are also in the running. However, Kane is said to favor a switch up north instead.
According to Ian McGarry of The Transfer Window Podcast, he believes that the Red Devils are ready to pay Kane an £18million signing-on fee, on top of his monster wage rise.
There has even been talk of players moving the other way to sweeten any deal. Anthony Martial is one of the options being mooted, along with two other United stars.
But Old Trafford transfer chiefs would have to break the bank to sign the Golden Boot winner.
There are some suggestions that Daniel Levy could demand as much as £240million to part ways with his talisman. That figure is well above the previous record transfers of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
Kane has not exactly played his cards close to his chest regarding his future. He told Gary Neville’s Overlap podcast last week that he was considering his stay in north London.
The fact that Spurs have missed out on elite European football again is sure to be part of Kane’s decision-making.
Ryan Mason’s men qualified for a play-off in the inaugural Europa Conference League after victory at Leicester.
Kane is said to have stated that he wants his future resolved before the start of the Euros. However, with the potential of more than one club being keen on his services, Levy is sure to stretch out negotiations for some time to recoup the biggest fee possible for the club.
