Manchester United are reportedly on the brink of reaching an agreement with Barcelona for the Frenkie de Jong transfer, amid claims by Sport, a Spanish media outlet that a deal is imminent.
The report outlines that Barcelona can expect to receive £68.7m (€80m) for the transfer of the 25-year-old.
That deal is being ratified by Barca’s officials, who want to sacrifice the player to ease their financial burden.
In addition, Fabrizio Romano claims Manchester United now want to open talks with the player over a move.
De Jong has always made clear his wish to stay at Barcelona and he may take some convincing to move.
However, with Barcelona wanting to sell, there is a growing feeling De Jong will be on the move. As such, a deal may well go through once the Netherlands’ Nations League games are over.
They face three more games, including two against Wales, with the last match slotted for June 14.
De Jong, if he signs, will step into a United midfield badly in need of some control and authority.
