Manchester United are open to paying Frenkie de Jong a huge weekly wage if he signs from Barcelona this summer, according to a report.
De Jong is a high-quality operater and would likely come straight into the United team.
Ten Hag knows the Dutchman well from their time together at Ajax. And De Jong could be partnered with Donny van de Beek in midfield next season, if the outcast is given a United lifeline.
Recent reports suggest United have told De Jong to make a final decision on his future. They don’t want to be kept waiting as this will disrupt Ten Hag’s plans for pre-season and the next campaign.
According to the Daily Star, He will be offered a long-term deal worth £395,000 each week, which equates to around £20.54million a year.
The report claims this is more than Ronaldo and de Gea, who earn £300,000 and £375,000 a week respectively. De Jong’s potential sum is also above that of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.
The 25-year-old midfielder must now decide what he wants the next few years of his career to look like.
He can remain at Barcelona and form an important part of Xavi’s project at the Nou Camp, or take a risk and swap it for Ten Hag’s one in Manchester.
Either decision means he will join a team that needs a few years to improve. But United’s ambitious plans suggest Ten Hag will be handed new players to improve the squad massively, making it an exciting option.
