Erik ten Hag is set to assess his squad ahead of next season, bringing in his own targets and flogging any players who he doesn’t believe to be suitable for his style of play.

Rashford reportedly wants to battle for his place next season, rather than searching for a move away from the club, despite his disappointing season, according to The Telegraph.

The England forward’s future at Old Trafford has been the subject of uncertainty since it emerged in the wake of United’s 4-1 derby defeat to Manchester City in early March that he was weighing up his options.

Barcelona have been showing an interest in Rashford in recent weeks, according to Todo Fichajes, but it seems the England international doesn’t want to leave the club that gave him an opportunity after coming through the academy.

Bayern Munich are also believed to be keeping an eye on Rashford’s situation in the event other targets do not come off but the player has set his sights on winning back his place at United under Ten Hag and rediscovering his best form after the worst season of his career.

The 24-year-old showed signs of being an exceptional talent during his early years at Manchester United, and not many would have expected him to struggle at any point in his career.

Once an ever-present for United, Rashford started just 13 of their 38 Premier League games this season as the club finished 35 points adrift of champions Manchester City and without a trophy for a fifth consecutive year.

Rashford missed the first two months of the campaign after undergoing surgery on a long-standing shoulder problem in the summer but he was largely frozen out in the final months of Ralf Rangnick’s interim spell in charge.

He started just four of United’s final 14 league matches of the season but felt being regularly moved around in different positions contributed to his struggles.

Gareth Southgate chose not to include Rashford in his latest England squad, so Rashford may be looking to stay in England to try and keep in sight of the England manager, and give himself the best chance of securing his place in the upcoming World Cup squad.

Rashford is expected to travel to the US where he will be put through his paces during a working holiday next month before he returns for the start of pre-season with United on June 27.
