Erik ten Hag has said that Manchester City and Liverpool cannot dominate forever, with his new-look Manchester United on the way back.

United officially unveiled their new manager to the media on Monday in his first press conference. The 52-year-old is taking over from interim boss Ralf Rangnick, who limped out of the dugout with another poor result.

An epic final day at the top saw City come back from two goals down to beat Aston Villa 3-2. They clinched their fourth title in five years ahead of Liverpool, who have now finished second with 97 and 92 points.

However, Ten Hag has insisted that teams come and go in cycles – and that Man Utd are now on their way back.

“In this moment, I admire them both, Manchester City and Liverpool,” Ten Hag told ESPN.

“They both play really fantastic football, both Liverpool and Man City.

“But you will always see an era can come to an end and I am looking forward to battle with them, and I am sure all the other Premier League clubs will want to do that.

“I’ve already met big coaches and big teams in the Premier League and I know how to deal with that.

“But it’s clear, the Premier League is the biggest league in the world I think and I’m looking forward to battling with them.”

“I have the idea and I will line up my best team to get the best of out them.

“To get their maximum and they feel comfortable in their role. In the end it is about getting the success together.”
