Manchester United are being linked with a move for N’Golo Kante following reports new boss Erik ten Hag has put the Chelsea midfielder high on his wanted list.
The Dutchman is planning a squad revamp to get United back on track and Kante is a target. A midfield general is a must-have for Ten Hag. He sees Kante as the perfect fit and is urging the United board to get the deal done.
Kante is now 31 but Ten Hag believes that the midfielder still has a lot to offer. Indeed he thinks that added experience in the middle of the park is just what United need.
The Frenchman has shown his class in the Premier League with both Leicester and Chelsea. And reports in the Daily Mirror claim that Old Trafford could be his next destination.
They claim that the idea of a move is not that far-fetched and Chelsea could sell. The Blues are looking at a squad revamp of their own following the takeover of the club.
Thomas Tuchel will have an injection of cash from new owner Todd Boehly. It means a reshuffle at Stamford Bridge that could result in Kante moving on. United are watching developments and could launch a move.
Kante has just one year remaining on his contract and it could be the last chance for Chelsea to recoup some cash. There is no mention of the fee in the report but it will not be extortionate considering the contract situation.

It will be nowhere near the reported £150million that West Ham want for Declan Rice. That figure is too much for United and they are looking elsewhere for a midfield enforcer.
Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong is another target for Ten Hag, along with Monaco youngster Aurelien Tchouameni. But now it looks as though Kante has emerged as a top target.
Kante would be a great signing if United can lure him away from Chelsea. He is a winner and will bring that winning mentality to the pitch and dressing room.
The midfielder has won everything there is to win, including the 2018 World Cup with France. Kante is as solid as you like, battling it out week in, week out.
He has made over 100 appearances in the last two seasons and is the ultimate professional. It is no surprise that Ten Hag has identified him as a player he wants on board.
Kante has a good few seasons left in him at the highest level and he will not break the bank. Obviously not one for the future but the kind of player United need right now to start the recovery.
Whether he can be convinced to head to United, even if Chelsea do agree to sell, is another matter.
