Wayne Rooney thinks Harry Maguire needs to get his confidence back to improve his form at Manchester United.
Maguire received boos from England fans last week at Wembley in a fresh blow to his morale. The centre-back has struggled for form at United all season, but the booing of Maguire during the international break was widely condemned from all quarters.
The 29-year-old’s credentials to captain United have been questioned this term and he’s been subjected to unprecedented scrutiny in his career to date. It has been a season to forget for Maguire but he responded well against Leicester across the weekend.
“I like Harry, I know Harry personally,” Rooney told Sky Sports. “He hasn’t been at his best form this season like a lot of players haven’t, and then you look at England, he goes to play for England and looks like a world-class centre-back.
“Again, a lot of it is confidence, the players need to win again, feel winning consistently, to get that confidence back. If they do that, I think Harry Maguire’s a big part in it.”
