Nunez will get the chance to show Manchester United what he can do imminently after his Benfica side were drawn against Liverpool for the next round of the Champions League. That came after victory over Ajax, which was witnessed by Man Utd representatives.

Two members of the Dutch side’s squad were also on the radar of Man Utd – as is their manager Erik Ten Hag. According to 90min, United’s scouts went to watch Antony and Ryan Gravenberch during the second leg of the tie.

Midfielder Gravenberch has been linked with United on an increasingly frequent basis recently. He could end up replacing Paul Pogba should the current number six run his contract down at Old Trafford as expected.

But he has also been suggested as a Bayern Munich target. Besides, 90min claim the “main reason” for their attendance at the Johan Cruijff ArenA was winger Antony.

The Brazilian winger has been developing rapidly. As such, he has been tipped to join a Premier League club in the near future.

United could be looking to evolve their frontline across all its components. Out wide, Antony would be an interesting addition for them to work with, even if they did not see his best side during the defeat to Benfica.

In contrast, someone who did take their chance to impress was Darwin Nunez. He scored the winning goal to set up Benfica’s quarter-final with Liverpool. It was his 26th goal of the season.

After Mason Greenwood’s assault case, the loaning of Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani departing at the end of the season, United may require a new number nine in the summer. Few have higher potential than Nunez, whom they have made a “detailed report” on already.

The Uruguay international has also been heavily linked with a Premier League transfer in recent weeks. However, he is eyeing a move to a club bigger than his suitors such as West Ham or Newcastle.

That could give Man Utd a chance of snapping up the 22-year-old. Reports in Portugal have suggested his price tag is £68m.

According to 90min, there is a growing belief that Nunez could adapt to the Premier League as smoothly as former Porto forward Luis Diaz has with Liverpool. That may tempt the likes of United to bid, even if it would cost them a lot.

It is clear that their transfer radar is focusing in several directions. Although, previous reports have doubted how much they will spend in the summer especially if Champions League football is lacking. Therefore, only time will tell which routes they will pursue further.
