Bruno Fernandes has proved to be a goal-involvement machine for Manchester United since his arrival in January 2020 and added to his impressive assist tally during the Premier League clash with Everton.
The Red Devils may have been held to a disappointing 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, but Fernandes was his usual influential presence in attacking midfield and chipped in with an assist.
The Portuguese playmaker set up Anthony Martial to put the hosts ahead just before half-time with a well-weighted pass for the Frenchman to run onto and fire beyond Jordan Pickford.
Since he joined United in January 2020 and his latest assist – in his 58th top-flight appearance – made him the fastest midfielder to reach 50 goal involvements in Premier League history.
In fact, only Andy Cole (43), Alan Shearer (54) and Eric Cantona (54) – all of whom were forwards – reached the landmark in fewer games than the former Sporting Lisbon man.
Fernandes’ remarkable creativity is further emphasised by his assist record compared to his current rivals.
Since joined from Sporting in a deal worth a total of £68million, he has set up his teammates on more occasions in the top flight than Manchester City talisman Kevin De Bruyne.
Fernandes has registered 20 Premier League assists in that time, while De Bruyne has 17 and Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson is next on the list with 14.
The 27-year-old has undoubtedly established himself as one of the biggest stars in English football, but he is yet to satisfy his burning desire for major honours with United.
