The father of Bayer Leverkusen starlet Florian Wirtz has sent a transfer message to Man Utd.
Wirtz is an 18-year-old attacking midfielder who has become one of the most valuable youngsters in the Bundesliga. He scored five goals and registered six assists last season as Leverkusen finished sixth in the table.
Wirtz has started the current campaign in brilliant fashion and recently made his Germany debut. He came off the bench during the country’s 2-0 away victory against Liechtenstein.
The wonderkid’s style of play, as well as club, has seen him likened to Chelsea forward Kai Havertz. His compatriot also broke through at Leverkusen before securing a £71m move to Stamford Bridge.
Premier League clubs Man Utd and Arsenal have been touted with an interest in Wirtz. Bundesliga sides Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are tracking his progress too.
Hans-Joachim Wirtz, the player’s father and agent, has spoken to Bild about the teenager’s future.
He said: “Florian definitely wants to play a good role in Leverkusen for the next two years. What comes next is not yet known. His focus is now only on Bayer and the national team.”
They will have to wait for a number of years before securing Wirtz’s signature. The player is contracted with Leverkusen until 2026 so they will not be forced into a sale any time soon.
The German club’s asking price is yet to be revealed. It could exceed the £71m they received for Havertz if Wirtz continues his exciting development.
