The 28-year-old has enjoyed a second impressive week of training with his new teammates and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is considering whether to start Varane at Molineux.
Centre-backs Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof struggled in the 1-1 draw with Southampton on Sunday and some United supporters questioned Solskjaer’s decision to name Varane and fellow summer signing Jadon Sancho on the bench.
Varane only started training with the United squad at the start of last week and the intention was always for the Frenchman to be named as a substitute at Southampton.
Wolves, now coached by Bruno Lage, lost their first two fixtures 1-0 to Leicester and Tottenham and have reverted to the back three formation that served them so well under former coach Nuno Espirito Santo.
Solskjaer matched Wolves’s back three in United’s April 2019 Premier League trip to Molineux, where United enjoyed periods of dominance and took the lead, but were beaten 2-1.
United ended their Molineux hoodoo on the final day of last season with a 2-1 win, having failed to win in any of their four previous visits.
