Reports on Saturday evening indicated that Red Devils midfielder Paul Pogba will not sign a new deal. The France international will instead allow his contract to run down before joining Paris Saint-Germain next summer.
The Old Trafford hierarchy are unlikely to take kindly to that scenario and the saga is set to run and run. A replacement is crucial if he leaves and a promising youngster plying his trade in France has been touted.
Manchester United are reportedly keen to buy Metz teenage sensation Pape Matar Sarr this summer, with a long-term plan in mind.
The 18-year-old enjoyed a superb first season in Ligue 1. He made just one appearance for Metz reserves in Championnat National 2 last term before being fast-tracked into the first team. The Senegal international made his debut in November last year and went on to enjoy 22 top-flight outings.
However, the report adds that they do not see him as an option for the current season. The idea is to get him on board before loaning him back to Les Grenats in France.
There has been no mention of a price but the African still has four years of his contract to run. Sarr is a versatile player capable of operating anywhere across the midfield. He might not be ready for the Premier League yet but has already shown an ability to step up.
