The best goalscorers have a habit of sniffing out chances and finding themselves in the right position at the right time, an attribute that Anthony Elanga seems to possess.
The 19-year-old has been a winger on his way through the ranks at Manchester United but he started this pre-season friendly against Brentford at centre forward and you wonder if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has noticed his ability to generate chances and wondered whether his future might lie through the middle.
That ability to sniff out where the ball is going to go and put yourself in the right position to receive it is something the best goalscorers have from a young age and Elanga’s record in the first team so far is exemplary.
Against Wolves on the final day of last season he scored and missed another excellent chance, while he could have had a couple more than the goal he did manage against QPR on Saturday.
It didn’t take long to make an impact against Brentford, holding his run intelligently to find a yard of space to be picked out by Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The finish on the volley was ruthless.
